THE PROMISED KING

Our journey through 1 Samuel in the “He Shall Reign” series revealed a God who sovereignly reigns with justice and mercy, even through the rise and fall of broken leaders. Now, in 2 Samuel, we step into the next chapter of the story with David on the throne. Through triumph and tragedy, we’ll see that the longing for a righteous, eternal King ultimately points us to Jesus—the true fulfillment of “The Promised King.”

2 Samuel 24 shows both the high cost of sin and the higher mercy of God, calling us to turn from self-reliance and run to Christ, our only hope.

David’s song of deliverance in 2 Samuel 22–23 invites us to trust God as our rock and rescuer, rejoice in His sustaining presence, and offer our weakness for His kingdom and glory.

2 Samuel 21 reminds us that sin carries real consequences, but through confession and Christ’s mercy, we find true forgiveness and lasting freedom.

2 Samuel 19 shows that while guilt can imprison us in regret, Christ’s mercy fully frees and restores us to live in the light of His forgiveness.

2 Samuel 17–18 reminds us that God is always at work, turning impossible circumstances into victory and calling us to trust in Christ, our faithful King.

2 Samuel 15–16 shows that God uses even the hardest seasons to restore our hearts and draw us back into deeper dependence on Him through Christ.

2 Samuel 11–12 shows that while sin brings destruction, God’s mercy brings restoration to all who humbly repent and trust in Christ.
